Adopt Romi

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

This animal is part of the senior club Romi. I was rescued from the Animal Center in our area and have been living at our shelter ever since. When I arrived, I was extremely afraid of people. It was hard for me to trust, I would hide, and I wouldn't let anyone approach. Now I'm learning slowly that not all humans are harmful. I'm relaxing and already allowing some volunteers to come close to me... even they've petted me once or twice! It's a big step for me. I love going out to the yard and playing with other dogs. I feel safer when I'm accompanied, and that helps me keep progressing. I'm in the process of emotional recovery, and having a sponsor or godparent would be very special for me. It would help me continue gaining confidence and prepare for finding my permanent home. I just need a family that understands my pace, that can look beyond my fears, and give me the chance to show how incredible I am. Because I am, even though it still takes me time to show it.

About Romi

What life with Romi looks like

Romi is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animales Rioja in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Romi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Romi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animales Rioja handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Romi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Romi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animales Rioja will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Romi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Romi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animales Rioja early rather than rehoming privately; they know Romi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
