Romy

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

A female Pekingese mix, born approximately 2021, was found roaming in the industrial area of Stadtallendorf and brought to our shelter through the local authorities. No one has come forward claiming her as their missing pet. She has a microchip with a Polish country code, which is not registered anywhere. We assume she was abandoned. Initially a bit uncertain and cautious around strangers, she quickly blossoms into a playful, mischievous, and lively dog who is very friendly, people-oriented, and curious. She has a lot of wit and charm, is active, wants to learn, and seeks a home that enjoys spending time with her and engaging in playful training. Romy is very dog-friendly and can easily be adopted as a second dog, but she should also be shown her boundaries as she tends to get over-excited. The sweet dog has obvious deficits in her upbringing that need to be addressed - she tends to become reactive on the leash and should receive guidance and leadership from her humans. She probably doesn't know how to be alone and expresses this loudly through excessive barking. She is more comfortable in the company of a relaxed companion. She is house-trained if you pay attention to her signals and take her outside regularly. We hope Romy finds a home soon that will challenge and engage her - she is cute and friendly, but also wants to be taken seriously and channel her lively energy creatively and constructively. (As of July 26, 2026) (Click on the images to see them in full size!) The description reflects the current situation, but we reserve the right to make changes or reassessments. It can always happen that an animal behaves or develops differently here at the shelter or in a new home due to changing circumstances.

About Romy

What life with Romy looks like

Romy is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Marburg in Marburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Romy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Romy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Marburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Romy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Romy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Marburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Romy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Romy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Marburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Romy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
