Rooky

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Species: Gerbil Age: Approx. 3.5 years Sex: Male About me: Rooky is an inquisitive and friendly boy who is growing in confidence in his foster home. He will happily approach his carer at the open tank door to see what’s going on. He is still working out how to take a proper sand bath and how to use his exercise wheel. Ideal Home: Rooky would ideally be paired with another male gerbil of a similar age using the split-cage method, in a home with owners who are experienced and knowledgeable about gerbil bonding. However, given his age and the stress involved in the bonding process, we would also consider a home where Rooky lives on his own. In this case, his owners should provide plenty of enrichment, stimulation, and positive human interaction, if and when he chooses to engage with it. The minimum enclosure size is 100x40x40cm. About Rooky

What life with Rooky looks like

Rooky is a adult mixed breed animal waiting at St Francis Animal Welfare in United Kingdom.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Rooky far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rooky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rooky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. St Francis Animal Welfare handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rooky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rooky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — St Francis Animal Welfare will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rooky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rooky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with St Francis Animal Welfare early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rooky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
