Roque

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Roque is an enormous dog, one that catches the eye the moment you see it, but what truly stands out about him is his personality: his heart is as big as his size. He arrived at the animal rescue association on January 5, 2025, and currently lives in foster care with three other dogs. He gets along very well with them, plays, shares space without any issues, and has shown himself to be a balanced companion in a pack. Despite his size, he walks properly on a leash and is manageable on walks. He is a very good dog with a clear affinity for people: he enjoys human company, seeks it out, and has a very distinctive gesture, gently taking your hand in his mouth to “guide” you and ask for attention. It’s a sweet and respectful way to draw your attention. With strangers, he can be a bit cautious at first, but he’s not a difficult dog in that regard. Within a couple of days, when he understands the routine and his surroundings, he relaxes and shows his true nature. Given his size, Roque needs a spacious home where he can move around comfortably. He is not a dog for very small spaces. Roque is, in short, a noble, affectionate, and balanced dog that only needs a family that understands his size and gives him the time he needs to adapt. In return, he offers companionship, loyalty, and lots of love.

A cambio, ofrece compañía, lealtad y mucho cariño.

About Roque

What life with Roque looks like

Roque is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Protectora Villena in Spain.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Roque, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Roque?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora Villena handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Roque on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Roque if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora Villena will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Roque already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Roque isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora Villena early rather than rehoming privately; they know Roque and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
