Rosita

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 4 months

Rosita is now Smiley. At Rosita, she also fell victim to the notorious "Puppy Foster Failure Syndrome." Rosita didn't care. She found her dog bed. This one with some exceptionally nice people who adopted her despite her minor flaw and the initial dislike towards the house's man. We wish Rosita and the rest of the pack a happy and worry-free time together. This poem was sent to us by Smiley's new owner. It also stands in for the many dogs waiting for their second chance. A Spanish throwaway dog. What have they done to you? What are people capable of? Abandoned on a blanket in the middle of the fields. Your teats sucked dry by your puppies. Fear plagues you, causing you to snarl and snap. Your rescuers can only lure you into the animal shelter with trickery. A flight to Germany. Now you're with us. You're slowly settling in. Still afraid of men. But there are still three other dogs. You find YOUR little pack. YOUR trusted people. I laugh at your dancing. I giggle at your crooked teeth. It amuses me when your little crooked legs hop. When your little butt wiggles while walking. I'm happy when you run like a squirrel over the fields behind YOUR dog pack. Round and round, barking until the little heart can barely keep up. That's what I call happiness! You give me so much. Beyond words. Little dog — You've arrived — Until the end of the rainbow, we will share this happiness together. ... And there are still so many here. And here are a few pictures. Click an image to enlarge.

About Rosita

What life with Rosita looks like

Rosita is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. in Zornheim.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rosita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rosita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rosita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rosita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rosita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rosita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Second Chance Dogs e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rosita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
