Rouge

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 5 years

The shelter is always full; the LIDA doesn't know what it means to breathe easily. Although it's not tourist season, when many animals that tourists have found are often surrendered, the LIDA volunteers continue to pick up numerous strays, abandoned, or injured cats and dogs. Private individuals' requests for help in surrendering their pets are also on the rise again. The economic problems caused by the coronavirus measures for many Sardinians are far from over. Some people are no longer able to care for their pets due to illness, such as long COVID. Some people bring their pets personally and ask for help, some simply leave them in a box at the LIDA gate or tie them up there. No one is turned away, even though the shelter is always on the verge of being overwhelmed. From the bottom of our hearts, we wish that this lovely young tomcat can soon leave the confines of his cage and travel to Germany to find his dream home with people who will give him a safe and loving environment. Rouge has managed to leave the confines of his cage and has traveled to his German foster home together with Nora. Now he is looking for a beautiful home. Rouge was initially very shy, but with the help of Nora and Dawson, his feline friends in the foster home, he gained trust and now likes to lie on his foster mom's lap and enjoy cuddles. With Dawson, he plays as befits a tomcat, sometimes roughhousing, then cuddling and grooming each other. Since Rouge and Dawson get along very well, it would be wonderful if they could find a home together. Rouge moved into a nice home with Dawson and a female cat. However, since Rouge appeared very stressed and did not overcome his panic even after a longer period, he returned to the foster home. There, he relaxed very quickly and happily played around the apartment with Nora.

About Rouge

What life with Rouge looks like

Rouge is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rouge, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rouge?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rouge on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rouge if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rouge already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rouge isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rouge and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
