Rowena

Female · Adult · 4 years

I am Rowena, a small, still quite fearful female dog looking for safety and love in a great home. This is me: I was seized for animal welfare reasons and am a rather quiet but also very insecure and fearful dog lady. That's why I need people who meet me with a lot of patience and understanding. New people and situations initially make me afraid. I need some time to build trust. But once I feel safe, I show my loving and affectionate side. Then I am clingy and would like to be with my humans all the time. I get along well with other dogs and can also walk calmly past them. A confident existing first dog could therefore help me to get better. I am also house trained. Whether I can also stay alone is not yet known - this may need to be practiced patiently. I wish for... a very quiet home in a low-stimulation neighborhood. Also in the household it should be as relaxed as possible. Children should not live with me, as I am very noise sensitive and get scared quickly. My sensible humans should already have dog experience and give me the security I need. Please plan several visits to the animal shelter so that we can get to know each other in peace and I can gain trust in you. Would you like to meet me? If you have a quiet home and would like to give a sensitive dog the time she needs, then please contact us via the application form below or by phone at Lassie-Haus (daily 13-16 except Saturdays).

About Rowena

What life with Rowena looks like

Rowena is a small adult dog waiting at Tierheim Berlin in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rowena, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rowena?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rowena on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rowena if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Rowena already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rowena isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rowena and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
