Adopt Roxy

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

📍 Current Location: Vienna Roxy is a presumably 2024-born, spayed mixed-breed female dog who was found abandoned and brought to the animal shelter of our Hungarian partner organization. She now lives in Vienna. She has an open, very friendly nature and looks adorable with her little bat ears. Her beautiful brown eyes charm everyone, she enjoys being petted and cuddled. On the other hand, she shows herself to be alert and curious, is appropriately lively for her age, and wants to be occupied. As a smart girl, she will quickly understand dog manners and daily routines in her new home. Roxy would make a great family dog, bringing joy to families with children. Generally, she gets along well with all fellow animals, especially male dogs, but may initially react unfriendly upon first meeting them, likely due to insecurity. Once she knows a dog, her behavior changes immediately and she plays with it. We therefore recommend her as a second dog only for experienced multi-dog owners who can handle the initial situation. It is unknown if she knows cats and how she reacts to them. She wishes for loving and active people who have plenty of free time, can patiently train her, and do not live right in the city center. Prior experience in dog ownership is recommended. The female dog has a shoulder height of 42 cm and weighs 12 kg.

About Roxy

What life with Roxy looks like

Roxy is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Austria in Wien.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Roxy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Roxy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Austria handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Roxy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Roxy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Austria will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Roxy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Roxy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Austria early rather than rehoming privately; they know Roxy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
