RUBIA

Mixed Breed · Female

What must Rubia have experienced to have this look full of fear when we approach? It's hard not to wonder. Nevertheless, behind this insecurity is a brave dog who is slowly beginning to take small steps towards trust. She still looks at us with respect, with that touch of fear that doesn't disappear from one day to the next, but also with a spark of hope. She is beginning to understand that these hands that now surround her only want to offer her affection and some treats, that no one will ask more than she can give, and that here we are willing to respect her times and accompany her in everything she needs. With other dogs she feels safer and is completely compatible with them; in fact, her presence helps her relax and observe the world with a bit more calm. She hasn't started going for walks yet because she needs a little more trust, but we are convinced that when she is ready, she will do it very well. Rubia has an old fracture in one leg that, considering her age, does not require surgery. It doesn't cause her pain and she walks normally, so subjecting her to an invasive operation and a complicated recovery would not be fair for a senior little dog that only needs tranquility and stability. For her, we are looking for a calm family, without rush, that doesn't seek big adventures but company and routine. Preferably with another balanced dog that helps her continue gaining trust, and without small children who, without intending to, might scare her. Rubia doesn't ask much. Just a safe place where, finally, she can lower her guard and begin to live with peace. If you feel that Rubia could be part of your life, come meet her 🐾 And if you can't adopt, share her:

About RUBIA

What life with RUBIA looks like

RUBIA is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at APAN — Protectora d in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting RUBIA, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about RUBIA?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. APAN — Protectora d handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw RUBIA on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt RUBIA if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — APAN — Protectora d will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is RUBIA already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if RUBIA isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with APAN — Protectora d early rather than rehoming privately; they know RUBIA and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (CA). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
