Rubia

Mixed Breed · Female

Red nose, green eyes, large, communicative bat-like ears - naturally, even without a picture, you would already know that we are talking about a Podenco or one of its mixes. In Spanish animal protection, these gentle, elegant animals are often difficult to rehome, as there are simply too many. Moreover, the endurance dogs are used for hunting and the stereotype of a hunting dog comes to mind: "he will always run away; he is hard to train; he needs much more exercise than...". However, many of these wiry dogs refute each of these prejudices. Inside the house, the glowing noses are mostly very quiet and almost cat-like unobtrusive, and outside they are wonderful companions for athletes or hikers. It is worth opening your heart and home to one of these often so beautifully featured ear animals! Our dog, who is not yet one and a half years old (as of 02/2023), is a particularly attractive and elegant example. With her beautiful rough coat, funny mustache and prominent eyebrows, Rubia is currently winning the hearts of her foster family in Seville. The long-legged, wiry female dog is initially somewhat shy and reserved in contact with people, but warms up more and more every day and gradually becomes a cuddly companion. Rubia was given up by her owner in January. As you might correctly suspect, the beautiful Podenco was not suitable for hunting and therefore had to leave. Fortunately for the beauty, her owner did not simply reach for the rifle to get rid of the dog he no longer needed... Rubia did not have the privilege of growing up as a beloved pet. Therefore, she lacks many environmental experiences. Our photo model learns quickly and explores her new life with joy and curiosity. Rubia wishes for people who want to give her trust, security and safety, many colorful adventures and cozy cuddle evenings on the couch - and of course she would be extremely happy with her first own ball!

About Rubia

What life with Rubia looks like

Rubia is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rubia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rubia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rubia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rubia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rubia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rubia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rubia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
