Adopt Ruby

European Shorthair · Unknown · Senior · 15 years

Gender: Female cat, neutered With us since: April 10, 2026 Features: Suitable as an indoor-only cat, a second cat is okay but not required; seeking a peaceful retirement home Temperament: Clingy, cuddly, trusting, calm Ruby is a true gem. She’s a relaxed, calm feline lady who enjoys attention from everyone and wants to cuddle all day—well, at least during the hours when she’s not sleeping. Ruby was originally rehomed by us as a young kitten at just one year old and has enjoyed a wonderfully happy cat life ever since. Then fate struck: Ruby’s owner passed away, leaving this 15-year-old, perfectly healthy senior cat suddenly alone. She only needs two thyroid tablets per day, which Ruby takes without any trouble. Overall, this lovely cat is completely easygoing and a wonderful older lady. Now, Ruby is hoping for people who can offer her a quiet retirement spot where she’ll be lovingly cared for and cherished for her remaining years—a place where she can enjoy companionship and savor her golden years. This red-and-white beauty repays kindness with plenty of purring and cuddles. Her new home should be calm and free of stress or commotion, with cozy sunny spots and one or more people ready to give her the love she so generously offers in return. A second cat wouldn’t be a problem, though it isn’t necessary. Outdoor access is no longer essential for her either—she’s very low-maintenance.

About Ruby

What life with Ruby looks like

Ruby is a medium-sized senior european shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. in Eutin.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ruby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ruby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ruby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ruby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ruby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ruby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Eutin und Umgebung e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ruby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
