Ruby

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 6 years

Mischling Ruby - loving nature lover seeks a quiet home Ruby is a wonderful female dog who celebrated her 6th birthday on May 15th. She has lived with her family since puppyhood and now, reluctantly, she is looking for a new home that meets her needs and where she can finally feel at ease. Ruby is an incredibly people-oriented and loving dog. She enjoys visitors and greets them openly and friendly. Sometimes she jumps up to greet, but calms down again. At home, she is a relaxed housemate who loves to lie on her favorite spot in the sun and enjoy the peace. As soon as it goes outside, Ruby shows her active side. She loves long walks in nature, especially in the forest, where she can sniff extensively and explore her surroundings. In summer, swimming is one of her greatest passions - water makes her happy. Ruby is generally good with other dogs and usually enjoys encounters. However, she also has her humans in mind and clearly shows when a dog doesn't appeal to her. She is by no means aggressively unfounded, but communicates clearly. Since Ruby is robustly built, her humans should be physically able to lead her safely. Ruby is a sensitive dog who quickly becomes insecure in new or unfamiliar situations. Loud noises like fireworks or sudden noise make her very afraid. In such moments, she needs people who remain calm, convey security and accompany her without pressure from the situation. A regular daily routine helps her a lot to gain confidence and relax. When Ruby feels the safety of her caregivers, gets enough exercise and can spend her day in quiet ways, she shows her cheerful, playful and affectionate side. Then she is a loyal companion who loves her humans above all else. We wish for Ruby a home outside the big city, because hectic life in Berlin was never right for her. She would feel much more comfortable in a rural or natural environment with lots of greenery and forests nearby. Experienced dog people who understand her sensitive nature and meet her with patience, calmness and love would be ideal. A confident first-time dog owner would certainly be a nice support for Ruby and could give her additional security, but it is not a requirement. Much more important is that she finds people who give her the time to gain confidence and show her that she has finally arrived. Ruby has so much love to give - she just needs the right people who will give her the chance at a happy and relaxed life. Here's Ruby's video

About Ruby

What life with Ruby looks like

Ruby is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ruby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ruby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ruby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ruby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ruby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ruby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ruby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
