Ruby

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Ruby – gentle beauty with a big heart seeks her people Ruby was born in November 2025 and is a beautiful young cat whose gentle nature quickly touches hearts. As a small kitten she was found alone in the winter. Since then, she has learned much at her foster home and already made great progress. Nevertheless, Ruby is one of those cats that need time to gain trust. Strangers, unfamiliar noises or hectic situations initially unsettle her, so she prefers to withdraw and observe everything from a safe distance. However, once Ruby has gained trust, she shows her true nature: She is an exceptionally loving and affectionate cat who enjoys the closeness of her caregiver very much. At her foster mother's side, she actively seeks contact, likes to be stroked and shows how much love is in her. Other cats are also very important to Ruby. She has built close friendships especially with the tomcats at her foster home. She loves cuddling with her feline friends for life and orients herself strongly towards them. Therefore, Ruby will not be placed in single housing. She absolutely needs a social, loving cat partner by her side – ideally a confident tomcat or a cat that gives her security and shows her that the world is not so scary after all. For Ruby, we wish for a rather quiet home with understanding people who do not make any demands on her and give her the time she needs. Older, calm children are no problem. Patience, empathy and the willingness to build trust step by step together with Ruby are important. Age-appropriately, Ruby is also playful, curious and active. When she feels safe, her cheerful and lively side comes more and more to the fore. Since Ruby already has the opportunity at her foster home to be in a secured cat enclosure for fresh air

About Ruby

What life with Ruby looks like

Ruby is a large young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Ibbenbüren in Ibbenbüren.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ruby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ruby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Ibbenbüren handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ruby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ruby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Ibbenbüren will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ruby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ruby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Ibbenbüren early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ruby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
