Rudi

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 4 years

Red Rudi is searching for his happy ending. Rudi has been through a tough time, but he’s now slowly but surely leaving it behind him. As a stray, he sustained a deep bite wound that led to bone inflammation and triggered FIP in him. Both conditions are being treated, and Rudi is steadily blossoming into a handsome fellow. At the same time, Rudi tested positive for FIV, but this doesn’t limit him in any way, and he can still live a long life despite it. Since we’re now providing Rudi with private, loving care until he recovers fully, but he can’t stay confined to his room indefinitely—and we don’t want to put him back outside either—we’d like him to shout “HERE!” one last time and find his forever home. He truly deserves it. Rudi is looking for a quiet home with people who are experienced with cats and who don’t have small children, though he’d love to have feline company. As a former stray, he brings some special quirks to his interactions that you’ll need to be aware of—but otherwise, these quirks won’t pose any problems at all. Rudi is neutered, microchipped, estimated to be 3–4 years old, and currently lives in Assamstadt, 97959. Rudi would be thrilled to meet potential adopters so that hopefully within a few weeks he can move into his new home. A meet-and-greet is possible anytime. Contact: Christina Leuser

Kontakt: Christina Leuser

About Rudi

What life with Rudi looks like

Rudi is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Bad Mergentheim in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rudi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rudi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Bad Mergentheim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rudi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rudi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Bad Mergentheim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rudi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rudi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Bad Mergentheim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rudi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
