RÜDi

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Rüdis story is sadly like many. He appeared in a village near one of our foster homes some time ago. He survived only thanks to tourists who fed him, while many locals chased him away because of his size. Yet Rüdi has proven himself to be a gentle giant who just wants affection (and maybe the occasional treat). He loves human company and enjoys every bit of attention he gets. Behind his imposing exterior is a balanced, loving dog who simply wants to be seen and appreciated. Rüdi gets along very well with other dogs. He currently lives with another large male in a kennel and they get on famously. He has not been tested with cats yet. As a herding mix, he may have the typical instincts. Herding dogs were originally bred to guard and protect flocks independently. They are usually very vigilant, loyal, and independent and need people who understand their special traits and approach them calmly and clearly. We therefore look for people willing to deal with the characteristics of a herding dog and live in rural areas, preferably with an enclosed garden. Rüdi travels neutered, vaccinated, chipped, dewormed, and flea-free. He will be rehomed after a positive pre-check against a deposit fee and with a valid EU pet passport. Do you want to give Rüdi the chance at a life of safety and security? A heartfelt thank you to Drea N.! You have not only given Rüdi an identity with his name, but also the chance at a new life. Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen!

About RÜDi

What life with RÜDi looks like

RÜDi is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting RÜDi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about RÜDi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw RÜDi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt RÜDi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is RÜDi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if RÜDi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know RÜDi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
