Adopt Rufina

Mixed Breed Cat · Female · Kitten · 4 months

Description Our animal welfare workers report: Rufina was just a few weeks old when we found her in an industrial area where street cats live. The chances for a kitten to survive there were not great. But she had an angel who led us to her. Shy, malnourished, with sore eyes, and in poor general condition, she lay under a tree near the feeding station. It was likely that she was taken from her mother, or something happened to the cat mom. She wouldn’t leave her kittens willingly. She mewed pitifully because her eyes caused her terrible pain. We packed her little velvet paw and brought her directly to the animal clinic, where she was treated for cat flu for several days. Unfortunately, one eye could not be saved and had to be removed. Rufina has since recovered well, and the missing eye does not hinder her from leading a normal cat life. She lives peacefully with another cat on a foster home, where she is lovingly cared for. Rufina plays and snuggles with her cat friend and has learned to trust people and enjoy cuddles. She dreams of her own cat kingdom where she gets more attention and can further develop her sweet nature. Rufina will trust her human and enrich his presence with her presence. Who will fall in love with the one-eyed pirate with a heart and give her her own cat kingdom? The animal described here lives on a foster home that houses many animals. For these animals, we are searching for a loving and safe home in a new environment. The descriptions are brief because there simply isn’t time to provide detailed descriptions during our daily work to care for all the animals. If interested, a detailed description can be requested by sending your questions directly to the email address provided. We will do our best to respond as soon as possible. Home Sought For Rufina we are searching for a loving, understanding home. Our cats come—where health and age allow—neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and with an EU Pass. Additionally, they are tested for FELV/FIV. We look forward to your contact.

About Rufina

What life with Rufina looks like

Rufina is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat cat waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rufina, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rufina?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rufina on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rufina if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rufina already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rufina isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rufina and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
