RUFUS

Mixed Breed · Male

Rufus has come back to us 😔. He was adopted for a while, but finally came back because he didn't fully adapt to the family. We don't know exactly what happened, but he did start showing signs of stress and channeled them in an inappropriate way. Before explaining, we preferred to give him space and re-evaluate him calmly. With us, Rufus remains the fun, affectionate and balanced dog he always was. But something has changed: he is now more sad. Often he stays in the cage with a distant look, looking at the horizon waiting for someone to come and find him again. He walks very well, is calm and ignores other dogs during outings. He hasn't been tested with cats yet. Although at the animal shelter he has shared spaces with children without problems, we believe that for his well-being it's better a family without small children, who can offer him a more predictable environment and without stimuli that might stress him. Above all, we are looking for a committed family. Any adopted animal carries an emotional backpack, and when we decide to adopt, we have to be prepared to work with them, have patience and understand that some things may not appear on the first day, but with time, routine and love they can be corrected. In addition, we remind you that we have an educator who can accompany you during the adaptation process, so you are not alone on this path. Let's not leave Rufus any longer in the cage. He doesn't deserve it. If you feel you can give him the opportunity he needs, come and meet him.

No s’ho mereix. Si sents que pots donar-li l’oportunitat que necessita, vine a conèixer-lo. I si no pots adoptar, ajuda’ns compartint la seva història 🐾 QUINS PASSOS HAS DE SEGUIR PER ADOPTAR-ME? About RUFUS

What life with RUFUS looks like

RUFUS is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at APAN — Protectora d in Spain.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting RUFUS, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about RUFUS?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. APAN — Protectora d handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw RUFUS on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt RUFUS if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — APAN — Protectora d will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is RUFUS already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if RUFUS isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with APAN — Protectora d early rather than rehoming privately; they know RUFUS and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (CA). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
