Rufus

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 10 months

🐾 Rufus is looking for a home... one that understands him 🏡💛 Rufus is an approximately 10-year-old water retriever who has been waiting at the animal shelter for homeless animals in Zamość since 2020. Those are long years... definitely too long for a dog who still has so much life in him. 🐶 What is Rufus like? ✔️ energetic – loves movement and... jumping! ✔️ plays fetch very well – that's his element 🎾 ✔️ independent – not the type of "snuggler" Rufus is a dog who doesn't like touch, especially on his back. Brushing or petting doesn't please him - and this should be respected. He's looking for a person who won't force him to change, but will accept him as he is. This is not a dog for everyone. This is a dog for someone who understands that the relationship can be different - less "on your lap", more beside you. Shared walks, playing fetch, space and peace - that's his world. 💔 The saddest part? Rufus spent his best years behind bars... and yet he really deserves his own piece of floor, a garden, and a person who will say: "stay forever". 📍 animal shelter for homeless animals in Zamość 📞 Call: 783 856 089 or 84 641 12 86 If you feel you can give Rufus a home - get in touch. He won't ask himself... but he's really waiting.

✔️ energiczny – uwielbia ruch i… skakanie! 💔 Najsmutniejsze? 🐾

About Rufus

What life with Rufus looks like

Rufus is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Puszatek in Warszawa.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rufus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rufus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Puszatek handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rufus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rufus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Puszatek will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rufus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rufus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Puszatek early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rufus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
