Adopt Runa

American Staffordshire Terrier · Female · Young · 1 year

Runa is a female dog born in June 2024, classified as an American Staffordshire Terrier-mixed breed according to the veterinary office's breed assessment. She came to us at the animal shelter Ludwigshafen e.V. under not entirely simple circumstances of an incident, about which we are happy to provide more information in a personal conversation. Character-wise, Runa shows a versatile nature typical of her breed: she can be lively and playful, but also brings a very cuddly and affectionate side. During our daily walks, she already reliably walks on the leash and is pleasantly manageable. Environmental stimuli like joggers or bicycles currently pose no problem for her. Runa has already lived with another young female dog and enjoys the contact with fellow animals in the pack here as well. In direct approaches, she can still be a bit impulsive and sometimes forward – she still needs guidance and training to become more secure and socially refined. An important point from the behavioral assessment: in situations where uncertain people approach her and try to touch her, Runa may snap. Under clear, authoritative leadership, however, she behaves unobtrusively and is well-handled in the animal shelter. This highlights how important it is for her to have a secure orientation towards humans. In the behavior test, she showed some interest in prey without appropriate guidance. In everyday life on the leash, this has not been an issue so far. Our dog walkers and the entire team are very fond of Runa. Visually, when she arrived, her fur, which was rather rough and patchy in places, stood out. We continue to monitor its development. However, it should be kept in mind that a switch to special (e.g., hypoallergenic) food might be beneficial. Important note: Runa is classified as a "List Dog" in Rhineland-Palatinate. Therefore, special legal requirements apply for her husbandry.

Daz

About Runa

What life with Runa looks like

Runa is a young adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Ludwigshafen in Ludwigshafen/Rheim.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Runa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Runa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigshafen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Runa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Runa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigshafen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Runa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Runa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigshafen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Runa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
