Ruža

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 3 months

Ruža, our little black rose, came to the shelter with her children Peter, Dahran, Cinderella, and Tommy. Milan found the little mommy and her babies on the street. Ruža is a small, delicate personality. She is a bit unsure but primarily just doesn't want much contact with people. She is a quiet and balanced little dog. Having lived on the street, and likely born there, snuggling with people is not at the forefront for her. However, it is to be expected that she would form a strong bond with someone who adopts her. The situation in the shelter, with hundreds of other dogs, leaves no room or time to spend much time with dogs like Ruža. Unfortunately, this is the sad reality when 4-5 people are responsible for over 200 animals. Ruža is a beautiful and small female dog who would make a perfect companion on a sofa, next to someone who appreciates her quiet and unobtrusive nature ❤️️ Info: What does it mean that the dog is not yet travel-ready? Our dogs are regularly vaccinated according to regulations. Rabies vaccinations are done annually in Serbia. To bring dogs from Serbia, which is now a listed third country, into the EU, they need a corresponding rabies titre. This measures whether there are enough antibodies against rabies in the blood. For Serbia, the titre certificate must be at least 3 months old upon entering the EU. Since titres are quite expensive, not all dogs have the certificate, and it is only made when needed. Therefore, if a dog is adopted, it may take up to 3 months for them to become travel-ready. This involves taking blood from the dog and sending it to the lab. This is also the reason why our dogs are not adoptable or travel-ready until they are at least 8 months old. You cannot adopt Ruža, but you still want to support her? No problem. About Ruža

What life with Ruža looks like

Ruža is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad in Aachen.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ruža, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ruža?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ruža on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ruža if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ruža already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ruža isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Help For Strays e.V. - Animal Hope Riska Belgrad early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ruža and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
