Ryder

Male · Senior · 9 years

Meet Ryder Ryder is a very special 9 years and 11 months old Welsh Terrier who is now looking for his forever home. This lovely boy really is a true gentleman. He has a calm, easy-going nature and takes most things in his stride. Vet visits? No problem. Bath time? No problem. Ryder is the sort of dog who quietly gets on with life without making a fuss. He enjoys his walks at a leisurely pace, taking the world in around him, and he isn’t particularly bothered by other dogs. Ryder is also a very affectionate boy who loves being around his people and will happily enjoy some gentle fuss and attention. But don’t let his age fool you — Ryder definitely still has a playful side! Soft toys are a particular favourite, and it’s wonderful to see his cheeky character come out when he decides it’s time for a little fun. Ryder is now looking for a quiet, peaceful home where he can enjoy the simple things in life and take each day at his own pace. Somewhere he can feel safe, settled and loved, with a family who will appreciate what a wonderful, gentle companion he is. Although we’ve had zero issues with Ryder around other dogs, we feel he would probably be happiest as the only dog in the home, where he can have all the attention to himself and enjoy a relaxed retirement. Ryder may not be looking for a life of adventure, but he has so much love to give. What he deserves now is a peaceful home, a comfy bed, plenty of affection, the occasional soft toy to play with, and someone who will cherish him for the lovely old gentleman he is. Could you be the forever home Ryder has been waiting for?

About Ryder

What life with Ryder looks like

Ryder is a senior dog waiting at Durham Dogs & Cats Home in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ryder, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ryder?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Durham Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ryder on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ryder if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Durham Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ryder already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ryder isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Durham Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ryder and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
