Sable

Collie · Female · Young · 1 year

Sable was previously in our care and was adopted into a loving home. Unfortunately, through no fault of her own, she has now found herself back with us as her owners were no longer able to care for her. Sable was born deaf; however, this does not hold her back! This gorgeous girl is an energetic collie who truly adores the company of people and will be a great addition to the right family! She has a very loving personality and adores affection, enjoying getting lots of pets and attention. Sable also has a playful side and loves playing with her favourite toys. Due to Sables breed and age, she will need plenty of regular exercise and stimulation so would love to find herself an energic, active family. Sable will require an owner who is around regularly initially to help her settle into the home, her new family will also need to be ready to dedicate training time with her as due to her being deaf, she will need extra specialised training to help her learn hand signals and facial expressions which will require patience and time. Sable will need a home with a good sized, secure outdoor space, and we believe she would be best suited in a home with older children who are sensible around dogs. She could potentially share her home with another similar sized dog who is able to hear, pending successful meetings at our centre.

About Sable

What life with Sable looks like

Sable is a young adult collie dog waiting at USPCA.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Sable, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sable?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. USPCA handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sable on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sable if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — USPCA will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sable already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sable isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with USPCA early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sable and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
