Sakura

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Kitten · 4 months

Sakura is a beautiful Oriental cat that is seeking out a very special home. Sakura came from a breeder and unfortunately missed out on much of the early socialisation that helps kittens grow into confident cats. As a result, she can be shy and uncertain around people and new situations. She is not the sort of cat who will immediately seek attention from strangers or demand affection as soon as she arrives in a new home. Instead, Sakura prefers to observe from a safe distance while she works out whether she can trust the people around her. She needs someone who understands that building a relationship with her will take time and that every small step forward is a significant achievement. She has been out on foster and is showing significant progress with people once she gets to know them. Once she begins to feel secure, her personality starts to emerge, and the sweet, sensitive cat underneath becomes more apparent. She needs a home that will allow her to continue that journey without pressure, where she can learn at her own pace that people can be trusted and that affection can be a wonderful thing. Because Sakura lacks confidence, she would be happiest as the only pet in the home. She enjoys the company of other cats, but doesn't know how to properly behave with them, and ends up scaring them. We are therefore looking for a home where she can be the only cat and enjoy a calm, predictable environment tailored to her needs. Sakura would also be best suited to an adult-only home. Young children, busy households and lots of visitors are likely to be overwhelming for her. What she truly needs is a quiet home with patient people who are prepared to let her settle in her own time and accept that trust cannot be rushed. Experience with Oriental cats would be highly desirable. Anyone familiar with the breed will understand how intelligent, sensitive and deeply emotional they can be. Orientals often form incredibly strong bonds with their chosen humans, and while Sakura may take longer than most to reach that point, the reward for her future owner could be a truly special relationship built on trust and understanding. Sakura is looking for an indoor-only home where she will be safe, secure and given every opportunity to thrive. She deserves a family who can see beyond her initial shyness and recognise the potential of the wonderful companion she can become. Sakura is for someone who finds joy in watching a nervous animal gradually blossom, who understands that patience is an investment, and who is willing to celebrate the small victories along the way. In return, you will be giving a deserving cat the second chance she needs and the opportunity to finally experience the security and love of a true forever home. If you believe you could offer Sakura the calm, committed and understanding home she is searching for, we would love to hear from you. She may not give her heart away immediately, but for the right person, she will be worth every moment of patience.

About Sakura

What life with Sakura looks like

Sakura is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Assisi Animal Sanctuary in United Kingdom.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sakura, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sakura?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Assisi Animal Sanctuary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sakura on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sakura if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Assisi Animal Sanctuary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sakura already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sakura isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Assisi Animal Sanctuary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sakura and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
