Salt

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy

Mischling Salt – now all she needs is her own home Salt and her two siblings didn't have an easy start. They were born on an abandoned property. When their mom was poisoned about three months ago, the three puppies were suddenly on their own. Fortunately, a foster home took them in. Now Salt is ready to take the next step: she wants to find her own people. Salt is a friendly young female dog who approaches people openly and gets along well with other dogs. For her start in her new life, we wish her people the time she needs. A new home, new people, and all the many unknown things can be quite exciting for a young dog at first. Salt still needs to learn many things with her people. Housebreaking, being alone, driving in a car, and the many small and large stimuli of everyday life are part of it. With patience, empathy, clear rules, and a lot of positive reinforcement, Salt will learn all this step by step. We are convinced that she will develop into a great companion. Of course, a young dog brings not only a lot of joy, but also work. Sometimes something works out immediately and sometimes it takes a little longer. Whoever has understanding for this and can also look away with humor over small setbacks will get a loyal companion with Salt for many years together. Who wants to show Salt how nice a home can be? Adopting a shelter dog always means taking on a special responsibility and can also become a challenge. The dogs bring a backpack with past experiences or unlearned situations and need time to settle into their new life. If you are seriously interested in adopting Salt, please contact the responsible SALVA Hundehilfe. We would also be very happy to provide a foster home. Here's Salt's video

About Salt

What life with Salt looks like

Salt is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Salt, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Salt?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Salt on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Salt if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Salt already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Salt isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Salt and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
