Sam

Female · Adult · 4 years

Sam is a gentle and loyal boy who wants to follow you everywhere. It doesn't have to be anything big, he just wants to be with you. Sam loves going for walks, but he also likes to stop and take in his surroundings, as the thinker he is. He can be a bit reserved at first with new people, but if you give him a few minutes to get comfortable, he jumps up next to you on the couch and wants to be petted. He likes to stay there for a long time. Sam is a bit more reserved around men than women, but he usually opens up quickly. He is easy to handle, we can lift his paws and look at his claws and ears - Sam takes it all in stride. He gets along well with children and would therefore fit in a quieter family. We have tested going on joint dog walks with Sam and he doesn't care much about other dogs, he walks at his own pace. However, he reportedly has resource defense against other dogs and should therefore live alone. Sam can get scared of sudden, loud noises and needs support in this - the ice cream truck is scary, he thinks. Sam is used to being in an office environment at work and is also trained to be alone and can be alone for short periods. He is used to taking public transportation but needs to practice more on riding in a car - a real city dog. Sam is currently chemically neutered and has started his weight loss journey. We believe Sam wants to come to a home where he can be an integral part of the family and has the time required. He enjoys simple everyday games like treat-seeking and everyday obedience. He is a moderately active dog who is quite happy with life as long as he can hang out.

SV·Show original

About Sam

What life with Sam looks like

Sam is a adult dog waiting at Hundstallet in Stockholm.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇸🇪Adopting from Sweden

Swedish shelters require an adoption application and home visit. Animals are chipped, vaccinated, and sterilized. Cross-border placements within the EU use the standard pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sam, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sam?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundstallet handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sam on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sam if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundstallet will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sam already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sam isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundstallet early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sam and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (SV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
