Sam

English Springer Spaniel · Male · Puppy · 10 months

Sam is nine and a half years old and has lived with his present owner for the past seven years. He is a friendly, well behaved boy, who’s described as a real ” people person ” He’s good at the vets and calm at the groomers, both say he’s a lovely dog! He enjoys his walks, is ok with other dogs and loves visitors. Sam was fine being left alone until 10 months ago when he had a panic attack while the owner was out. We believe something must have frightened him and he couldn’t get to his safe space. Since this incident he becomes anxious when left alone and his new family will need to be patient while teaching him that he is safe and that they will always return. NWESSR will give support and advice to his new family while he settles in and learns to trust again. If you feel that you could give this beautiful boy the time and dedication he needs to help him to rebuild his confidence you will be rewarded with a very special companion. If you think you could give Sam his forever home, please click on the application form button below to find out more about the adoption process and complete an online form application. About Sam

What life with Sam looks like

Sam is a puppy/kitten english springer spaniel dog waiting at English Springer Spaniel Rescue NW England in United Kingdom.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sam, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sam?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. English Springer Spaniel Rescue NW England handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sam on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sam if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — English Springer Spaniel Rescue NW England will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sam already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sam isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with English Springer Spaniel Rescue NW England early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sam and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
