Placement Assistance: Appenzeller Sennenhund Sam is Looking for a New Home We are seeking, on behalf of his family, a new, loving home for the young Appenzeller Sennenhund Sam—preferably with experienced dog owners. Sam is a purebred, unneutered Appenzeller Sennenhund with pedigree papers, known for his loyalty, affectionate nature, and eagerness to learn. He forms strong bonds with his human companions, loves cuddling, and enjoys working closely with his people. Since puppyhood, he has regularly attended dog school and has also been supported by a behavioral trainer. Like many Appenzellers, Sam possesses a sensitive temperament and plenty of energy. In situations that strongly excite or stress him, he tends to become uncertain, especially around children. Despite intensive training, this behavior has not yet been reliably modified. Therefore, we would like Sam to find a home without children, ideally with experienced dog owners who can read his signals well and provide him with calmness, structure, and consistency to give him a sense of security. Sam gets along very well with female dogs; with male dogs, it depends on mutual compatibility. He loves physical activity, craves both physical and mental stimulation, and would thrive in a rural environment where he can fully express his strengths. We are convinced that Sam can be a wonderful companion when placed with the right people. Anyone willing to provide him with the appropriate conditions will gain a loyal, intelligent, and loving dog by their side. Contact If you’re interested in Sam or have questions about him, please contact his owner directly: Christian Peitzmeier 📞 Note: This is placement assistance. About Sam

What life with Sam looks like

Sam is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Ibbenbüren in Ibbenbüren.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sam, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sam?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Ibbenbüren handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sam on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sam if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Ibbenbüren will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sam already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sam isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Ibbenbüren early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sam and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
