Sammy en Jenny

Female · Senior · 9 years

Sammy and Jenny are a nine-year-old Icelandic Shepherd and a two-year-old Maltese. They are best friends and are looking for a forever home together. Would you consider adopting this special pair? Read on to learn more about them. Sammy and Jenny may seem like an unlikely pair, but they are a wonderful duo. Sammy approaches life calmly, while Jenny is full of energy. They love people, walks, and cuddles. Sammy can sometimes be startled by loud noises, but he has his calm friend to rely on. After all, who wouldn't want a rugged Icelandic Shepherd by their side? Sammy is a bit more laid-back than his young friend, but he's a big cuddle bug in his own quiet way. He loves to lay his head on your lap, and you know what time it is: cuddle time. He'll soon be lying on his back, enjoying the feel of his thick fur. When on walks, Sammy strolls calmly on a leash, and Jenny is well-behaved for a young dog. They're not bothered by distractions like traffic, and they can easily pass by other dogs. They love to play together, and it's heartwarming to see them frolic. It's as if there's no age or size difference between them! It's important to note that Sammy is overweight, which can be a health concern. We encourage the new owner to work on this issue so Sammy can enjoy his retirement. We're happy to provide tips to help. Both dogs require regular grooming, so regular trimming is a must. Sammy also needs to be careful in warm weather, as his thick coat can be too much. But every cloud has a silver lining: this rugged guy loves going out in the cold! Sammy and Jenny need loving owners with space, time, and love for two dogs. They enjoy walks and need to know that a nine-year-old Icelandic Shepherd may have different needs than a young Maltese. A yard would be nice, but they don't have any special requests. As long as they can stay together, that's all that matters! While they're friendly with other dogs, we think a home with two dogs will be the best balance. We envision them as great family dogs, as long as the children are a bit older (10+) and give the dogs some peace. A combination with cats might not be ideal, given their enthusiastic barking when they see a new friend outside. Are you already smitten with these two fantastic four-legged friends? Sammy and Jenny want to meet you, so please contact us for more information! **Date with Sammy and Jenny?** You can only visit our dogs by appointment. To ensure you and the dog are a good match, please fill out the following questionnaire as thoroughly as possible. We will contact you as soon as possible. **What is your name, address, city, email address, and phone number?** **Tell us about your family situation. What are the ages of all family members, including any children?** **Tell us about your work situation (number of days, how many hours are you away from home, etc.)** **How many hours can the dog be alone? Dag allemaal! About Sammy en Jenny

What life with Sammy en Jenny looks like

Sammy en Jenny is a small senior dog waiting at Dierenhulpverlening Woerden in Harmelen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sammy en Jenny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sammy en Jenny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenhulpverlening Woerden handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sammy en Jenny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sammy en Jenny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenhulpverlening Woerden will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sammy en Jenny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sammy en Jenny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenhulpverlening Woerden early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sammy en Jenny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
