Samson

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Samson is a neutered, approximately 6-year-old European Shorthair cat looking for a calm and understanding home. He is more of a reserved cat and initially meets new people and unfamiliar situations cautiously and shyly. Samson needs time to build trust and get used to his new environment. People who give him this time without expectations and respect his boundaries will create the best long-term conditions for him to feel safe. The cat is not a typical lap cat and does not actively seek human company. He dislikes being pressured and clearly shows when things become too much for him. Therefore, Samson is not suitable for applicants looking for a very affectionate or cuddly cat. Instead, he is looking for a quiet home with patient people who enjoy offering a secure environment to a rather independent cat and accepting its peculiarities. A suitable social contact with other cats is particularly important for Samson. He should certainly not be kept as a single cat, but needs a confident, preferably same-age cat companion, with whom he can orient himself. An existing socially well-adjusted and calm tomcat could help him ease into his new home. Too demanding or very young cats would probably not fit well with him. As Samson carefully observes his surroundings and likes to be on his own, we see him more as a free-roaming cat. After a sufficient adjustment period, he should therefore be given the opportunity to go outside in a quiet and low-traffic environment. Pure apartment living would probably not be ideal for him in the long run. For Samson, we wish a rather quiet home without much hustle and bustle. Small children would probably overwhelm him. People with cat experience or a good understanding of reserved animals would be ideal for him.

DE·Show original

About Samson

What life with Samson looks like

Samson is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. in Dormagen.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Samson, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Samson?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Samson on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Samson if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Samson already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Samson isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Samson and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
