Samuel

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Young · 1 year

This handsome boy is Samuel! He is a fun-loving, affectionate lad who is looking for an active home. He is an incredibly friendly and sweet-natured boy who loves being around people and enjoys plenty of fuss and attention. As a typical young dog, he has lots of energy and enthusiasm, so he’ll thrive with owners who can give him plenty of exercise, playtime, mental stimulation and continued training. He loves nothing more than a game of fetch and will happily spend time chasing his favourite toys. He’s always ready for an adventure and would make a fantastic companion for someone with an active lifestyle. Being a young dog, he can become overexcited and will jump up to greet people. He can also be a little nippy during these excited moments, so he’ll need patient owners who are committed to helping him learn calmer manners through positive reinforcement. He is a strong boy on the lead and would benefit from further lead training. In his kennel, he does chase the hose and brushes – it’s all part of his playful, cheeky personality. This lovely lad is looking for a home that understands young, energetic dogs and is willing to invest the time and training he will need. He will need a private secure garden. He has socialised with other dogs whilst in our care and can be a little nervous and unsure at first, so we would like him to be the only dog in the home where he can slowly build up his confidence around other dogs with the full support of his new adopter. As he came into the home as a stray we have no previous history on him and as he can be a little nippy when he is overexcited we would like any children in the home to be 14+ years.

About Samuel

What life with Samuel looks like

Samuel is a medium-sized young adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) in Manchester.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Samuel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Samuel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Samuel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Samuel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Samuel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Samuel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Manchester & Cheshire Dogs Home (Manchester) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Samuel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
