Adopt Samy

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

"Samy" arrived at the shelter because unfortunately his former owner could no longer take care of him. He is a dog who is a bit reserved when he doesn't know someone. He needs time to gain trust, he is afraid of things he doesn't know. But once he trusts you, he will allow you to give him some cuddles. He can quickly become excited out of frustration, especially by barking; he will need to learn how to manage his emotions. Playful, he likes to chew on dog toys. He is an energetic dog who will need daily and stimulating walks. "Samy" does not seem to get along well with other animals of the same species. "Samy" is a dog who will need adopters with knowledge in dog training to help him gain confidence in humans and restart the basics of training with him. In his previous life, "Samy" lived in a house with a garden, so we would like to place him in the same conditions. A follow-up with a dog trainer after adoption will be strongly recommended for the future adopters of "Samy".

About Samy

What life with Samy looks like

Samy is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at SPA de Bordeaux et du Sud-Ouest in Bordeaux.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Samy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Samy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA de Bordeaux et du Sud-Ouest handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Samy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Samy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA de Bordeaux et du Sud-Ouest will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Samy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Samy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA de Bordeaux et du Sud-Ouest early rather than rehoming privately; they know Samy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
