Sancho

Galgo Español · Male · Puppy · 3 months

I’m Sancho. My story didn’t begin like that of most puppies. On June 29, I was found along with my siblings at the side of a road, under unbearable heat. Someone had decided to abandon us, but life gave us a second chance when some kind-hearted people rescued us just in time—before it was too late. I’m a greyhound puppy, a breed that’s elegant, noble, and incredibly affectionate. They say we’re great runners, and it’s true—we absolutely love to run whenever the moment comes—but we also enjoy long naps, a cozy blanket, and above all, being close to our family. We’re very sensitive, calm, and loyal dogs, capable of forming a truly special bond with the people who love us. I’m still a baby, and I’m discovering the world around me. I’ve got so much more to learn—how to go for walks, how to play, how to make new friends, and how to grow up surrounded by love. All I need is a family to accompany me on this journey, one that’ll have patience as I learn, and that’ll love me for the rest of my life. In return, I promise to fill your home with joy, fun-filled moments, and that unconditional love only a greyhound can give. Will you let me become part of your family and help write a happy ending to my story? For more information about adoptions:

Soy Sancho. About Sancho

What life with Sancho looks like

Sancho is a puppy/kitten galgo español dog waiting at Animales Rioja in Spain.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sancho, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sancho?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animales Rioja handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sancho on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sancho if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animales Rioja will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sancho already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sancho isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animales Rioja early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sancho and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
