Sand

Male · Adult · 4 years

Released on June 13, 2021, from a so-called "slaughter" pound in Romania. Arrived in France on October 15, 2022, as an adopted pet, Sand quickly bonded with the women in his home, but he had a lot of trouble adapting to the men with whom he needed more time. Unfortunately, conditions were not always met, and adoption failed, so Sand was placed in a boarding facility in department 51 due to a lack of foster home space. In the boarding facility, Sand adapts well, he dislikes change and the "routine" helps him work on his fears. He is affectionate towards the people he knows, he says nothing to the children and the cats. He learns canine codes in the presence of other regular dogs in the facility. He is clean and enjoys walks in places he knows. Sand will need a patient family that allows him to evolve at his own pace and understands him, he is still shy but very intelligent, he just wants to interact with human beings who will help him evolve. A garden is preferable for Sand because he is playful and needs to be able to vent and run. He will also need a place to be alone when he feels the need. He is happy to see the volunteers who visit him at the boarding facility. He greets them and follows them without flinching for a walk. He is well-handled. During the August 2025 visit, they wanted to change the direction of the walk, and he immediately preferred to go back to his box. As a result, he was given a second walk in the right direction, and it went much better. He is sensitive. Still as gentle, he prefers caresses to treats. On January 20, 2026, Sand changed boarding facilities. He is now in department 76 with a larger enclosure. His arrival went very well. He was intimidated by the large David, the facility manager, but preferred to keep to his activities and ask the girls for caresses. We will see in the coming weeks how he evolves with him. It is time for him to return to a family life.

About Sand

What life with Sand looks like

Sand is a large adult dog waiting at 30 Millions d'Amis in Paris.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sand, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sand?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. 30 Millions d'Amis handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sand on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sand if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — 30 Millions d'Amis will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sand already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sand isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with 30 Millions d'Amis early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sand and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
