further video link: May 29, 2026: Sandro was allowed to travel to his German foster home. June 2, 2026: Sandro recently arrived at his foster home and has shown himself to be wonderful from the very first day. He gets along wonderfully with the two young children in the family and delights everyone with his cheerful, open, and loving nature. The small male dog is a typical Segugio-mixed breed. These dogs are known for their friendly, gentle, and people-oriented nature. Of course, Sandro also brings a lot of curiosity and energy due to his age. He wants to discover the world, learn new things, and experience many adventures together with his people. Sandro is looking for active people who enjoy accompanying a young dog on his journey. A puppy is not a finished dog but a small rough diamond that will grow into a wonderful companion with patience, love, and a bit of consistency. Visually, Sandro is a real looker. With his black fur and long floppy ears, he belongs to the beautiful "black long-eared" dogs, as we affectionately call our Segugio-mixes. But not only his appearance convinces. Character-wise, he is a little treasure that is well suited for both engaged new dog owners and as a second dog. Sandro gets along excellently with other dogs. While he doesn't know cats in his German foster home, in Sardinia he lived with cats, so we assume that cohabitation with furred feet should also be possible. Sandro is likely to reach a pleasant medium size and brings everything a family dog can wish for: friendliness, openness, a love of learning, and a whole lot of joie de vivre. Are you ready for the dog adventure and want to give Sandro the chance to have his own home? We look forward to your message. If you are currently searching for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption means not only a lot of joy but also work and great responsibility, then we look forward to your message. We provide nationwide.

About Sandro

What life with Sandro looks like

Sandro is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sandro, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sandro?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sandro on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sandro if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sandro already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sandro isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sandro and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
