Santana was admitted to our shelter on November 12, 2023. He came from the war zone in Ukraine and was found there more dead than alive. The video tells his story: Unfortunately, it has become clear shortly after the video was posted that Santana's physical wounds have healed, but not his psychological ones. He is noticeably calmer and more cooperative in handling, BUT we must clearly state that he is not a dog for beginners and should not live in a household with children. Santana needs time to truly trust. If he feels threatened or if old memories are triggered in him, he will snap. Therefore, his future owners should have experience in handling dogs. Once he has built trust, he is very cuddly and clingy. On walks, he goes well on the leash and enjoys the shared tour, but one must be careful and avoid passing cyclists. Similarly, if there is a stranger's visit to the house. In this situation, management measures are needed to give him the necessary space and time to react in a friendly manner. Santana ist am 12. November 2023 bei uns eingezogen. Er stammt aus dem Kriegsgebiet der Ukraine und wurde dort mehr tot als lebendig gefunden. Das Video erzählt seine Geschichte: Leider hat sich kurz nach Veröffentlchung des Videos herausgestellt, dass Santana`s körperliche Wunden ausgeheilt sind, nicht aber seine seelischen. Er ist deutlich ruhiger und kooperativer im Umgang geworden, ABER wir müssen ganz klar sagen, dass er kein Hund für Anfänger ist und nicht in einem Haushalt mit Kindern leben sollte. Santana braucht seine Zeit, um wirklich vertrauen zu können. Fühlt er sich bedroht oder werden alte Erinnerungen in ihm getriggert, schnappt er zu. Seine zukünftigen Halter sollten also Erfahrung im Umgang mit Hunden haben. Hat er einmal Vertrauen gefaßt, ist er sehr verschmust und anhänglich. Auf Spaziergängen geht er gut an der Leine und freut sich über die gemeinsame Tour, bei vorbei kommenden Radfahrern muss man allerdings aufpassen und ausweichen. Ebenso, wenn fremder Besuch ins Haus kommt. In dieser Situation braucht es Managementmaßnahmen, die ihm den nötigen Raum und die nötige Zeit geben, freundlich reagieren zu können.
