Adopt Santos

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

Santos (registration number P-2791/18) born around 2011. Entered the animal shelter in 2018. He is small, reaching up to the knee. Santos is a friendly dog, likes human company, is curious and quickly connects with everyone, however he is not fond of long cuddles, he values his space. Loves walks, walks nicely on a leash, calmly passes other dogs and people. Handles car rides well. Santos is very social and gladly greets every dog, is confident but also gentle, so he could easily live with another dog. He also had an introduction with a cat, which took place in a good atmosphere, so there is a chance that he could share a common space with cats as well. When adopting Santos, it should be noted that some situations cause him stress, which he releases by attacking his tail. This happens when something overwhelms him, there are too many new stimuli, too much touch. However, this can be managed by getting to know Santos and not putting him in situations where he feels lost. Difficulties also arise with grooming procedures such as brushing, nail trimming, as he is sensitive to touch. Santos is a great dog companion for life, but requires understanding and a calm approach. *The above description was created based on observations of the dog's behavior in the animal shelter. It should be noted that after adoption, the dog's behavior may change.

Santos (nr rej. P-2791/18) urodzony około 2011r. Do schroniska trafił w 2018r. Santos to wspaniały psi kumpel do życia, potrzebuje jednak zrozumienia i spokojnego podejścia. *Powyższy opis został stworzony na podstawie obserwacji zachowania psa w schronisku. Należy mieć świadomość, że po adopcji zachowanie psa może ulec zmianie.

About Santos

What life with Santos looks like

Santos is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Bialystok in Białystok.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Santos, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Santos?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Bialystok handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Santos on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Santos if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Bialystok will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Santos already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Santos isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Bialystok early rather than rehoming privately; they know Santos and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
