China Ponette Shetland Female Born on 01/06/2001 (24 years and 11 months) It was therefore on Friday, December 4, 2015, that we intervened at the request of the SPW to take charge of and care for the ponies seized from the Glons entity. We had no more space at the shelter, but it was impossible to leave them in such conditions. At the time of the intervention, there were only 2 ponies on the site. A mother and her foal had crossed the almost non-existent fences and found themselves trapped along the Geer. It is not surprising that, in addition to the lack of effective fencing, the animals tried to flee this place: a muddy field where the ponies sank their legs up to mid-thigh. We therefore had to first carefully follow the fence in order to catch the mother while avoiding an accident. Indeed, if the already very weak foal panicked and fell into the water, with the current due to the weather, it would have been carried away and would probably have drowned. Fortunately, our president was finally able to slowly and with great care approach and tie the mother. Then the hardest part was to make her turn around in order to all return to solid ground together with her foal. The rescue was successful, and after a few weeks we eventually obtained permanent custody of the animals. About SB

What life with SB looks like

SB is a senior mixed breed horse waiting at Animal Sans Toit in Faimes.

Adopting a horse is a long-term commitment that almost always requires either land or a boarding stable. The shelter will discuss the horse's training level, vet history, and what kind of work or companionship they're suited for. Expect ongoing costs: feed, farrier, vet, and stabling.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting SB, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about SB?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Sans Toit handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw SB on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt SB if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Sans Toit will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is SB already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most horses on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if SB isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Sans Toit early rather than rehoming privately; they know SB and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
