Adopt Schnucki

Female · Adult · 5 years

Schnucki is an approximately 5½-year-old German Giant Checkered mix doe with personality. The rabbit lady currently lives outdoors with Acari and is looking for a species-appropriate future home with plenty of space and a secure enclosure. Schnucki is not a reserved little lady, but shows quite clearly when something isn't to her liking. She is considered rather "moody" and therefore should not go to a household with small children. However, if you understand her nature and respect her boundaries, she is a fascinating and special character. Due to a dental misalignment, Schnucki needs regular veterinary check-ups (her teeth must be trimmed about 1–2 times a month) and an adapted diet. With the right care, she copes well with this. Together with her calm partner Acari, she forms a harmonious pair, which is why the two are rehomed only together.

About Schnucki

What life with Schnucki looks like

Schnucki is a adult rabbit waiting at Tierheim Linz in Linz.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Schnucki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Schnucki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Linz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Schnucki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Schnucki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Linz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Schnucki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Schnucki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Linz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Schnucki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
