Schnuffel

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Schnuffel has been locally rehomed! His story: Schnuffel had it tough in the past. He was found with a roughly 700g tumor on his belly, which fortunately could be completely removed. A tissue sample was taken and sent in; the results are still pending. Even though it's unclear if the tumor was malignant, he's doing well now and is continuing to recover at the shelter. It's important that his new people are prepared to have his health status regularly checked by a vet. With his calm, composed nature, Schnuffel immediately stands out. He's friendly, people-oriented, and enjoys when you engage with him. At the same time, he's not pushy and seems to appreciate the closeness. With other dogs, he shows good compatibility and is overall very balanced. Schnuffel is one of the seniors among our shelter residents. Older dogs bring a wonderful calm and gratitude that many people find surprising. They are usually already a bit more seasoned, sleep a lot, and no longer have a great need for hours of exercise. Nevertheless, they are happy about small outings, attention, and a quiet home with people who appreciate their company. Whoever adopts Schnuffel gets a dog who no longer seeks chaos but simply wants to spend a peaceful life in security. Positive dog training classes or an experienced trainer can help with the adjustment—often, older dogs need a little orientation at the beginning to find their place in the new routine. Schnuffel travels microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He possesses an EU pet passport and can be adopted after a positive foster home experience. A kind Schnuffel would also be very happy with a loving foster home. Please give the dear Schnuffel the chance at a warm dog bed and a dignified life in security. Many thanks to Mochi for giving Schnuffel the chance at a new life with his sweet name! Many thanks to Christina K. for supporting Schnuffel with a monthly sponsorship! Status: 01.06.

Vielen Dank Christina K.! Du unterstützt Schnuffel mit einer monatlichen Patenschaft! About Schnuffel

What life with Schnuffel looks like

Schnuffel is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Schnuffel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Schnuffel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Schnuffel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Schnuffel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Schnuffel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Schnuffel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Schnuffel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
