Adopt Scout available

Collie · Male · Senior · 12 years

Hey everyone I'm Scout and I am looking for a home where I can live out the rest of our days. I have had a lot of changes over the last few months where my original owner who bred me sadly passed away, the extended family couldn't keep me and then I got rehomed by the lovely people here at the NAWT. Unfortunately, due to no fault of my own, my new owners can not keep me as they have developed some health issues. I am currently staying with them until a new suitable home is found, and are being well looked after and cared for so I don't mind too much!I am a lovely older gent, very gentle and very loving once I know you and have got over some initial shyness - you can just tell that I have been really cared for over the years. I am more nervous than my sister Tiegan who is also looking for a new home, especially if out in busy environments, and you will see my tail go between my legs. I much prefer a slower pace of life and a more rural location, I am a countryside loving Collie and everyone adores me!I love my food and I also love a real fuss so I wont stray far away from my owner at all and walk beautifully on the lead. I may bark a bit when I get in the car at first or when first let out in the garden or if the door bell goes. I haven't lived with cats before but that might be a possibility. Although I have been living with Tiegan I'm not keen on sharing my space with any other dogs. I can walk past them on my walks but I wouldn't like strange dogs rushing up to me and getting in my face.I had piled on the pounds but am slowing loosing some weight with a good diet and exercise, and I am a little weak on my back legs so am on some pain medication to help me. I have the most beautiful coat that will need some care and maintenance, but I have been used to visiting the groomers regularly so don't mind a pamper. I absolutely love the outdoors and spend a lot of time in the garden so am really hoping my new home has lots of outdoor space too. I am good as gold to leave in the house and just settle down for another snooze - as I am a bit older now I do tend to spend quite a bit of time sleeping! If a beautiful gentle Collie (or two!!) is something you might consider, please do get in touch xx NAWT Cornwall Wheal Alfred Kennels Wheal Alfred Road Hayle Cornwall TR27 5JT Choose an item from our Amazon wish-list and it will come straight to us! About Scout available

What life with Scout available looks like

Scout available is a medium-sized senior collie dog waiting at National Animal Welfare Trust in Watford.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Weight management needed, weak back legs requiring pain medication, bonded pair with Tiegan

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Scout available, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Scout available?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. National Animal Welfare Trust handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Scout available on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Scout available if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — National Animal Welfare Trust will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Scout available already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Scout available isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with National Animal Welfare Trust early rather than rehoming privately; they know Scout available and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
