Scruff has historic medical concerns, namely a benign mass removed, a number of teeth removed a healed tail injury and an enlarged digit on toe., that Scruff would need to be the only pet in the home. We imagine he is an avid hunter and therefore small pets could be at risk. Scruff can only live with adults, this is due to his temperament and reducing the stress in the home. He needs a household who are happy to have an independent cat that will do his own thing and potentially only come home for mealtimes – he isn’t overly interested in having physical affection but may learn to enjoy company potentially, this can’t be an expectation however. Scruff would need to live in a rural/countryside area where he can free roam outdoors but come inside if he wishes for feeding and company if he seeks that out. He is used to being outdoors. A low cat population is recommended due to the likelihood of fighting. Scruff came to us a stray and was looking really ‘scruffy’ – hence the name. Our vets gave him a thorough MOT and then we began trying to build trust with him and give him a calm and comfortable space. It takes Scruff a long time to feel safe around people and he will hiss/grumble to show he’s feeling unsure. Scruff loves one thing more than anything in this world… FOOD. This is how we started to win him over. Despite him becoming a bit more settled, we found him to remain an independent boy who mostly enjoys his own space. With a trusted person he is tolerant of some gentle head strokes here and there while he munches on some food or accepts some treats. He will happily lick some paste treat off a finger! We think he would thrive in a more rural/countryside area where there’s areas he can explore outdoors and know he has the space and freedom to come and go. He’s very foodie and after building some trust we hope he will feel safe in a quiet and calm home, with a family who don’t mind if he isn’t affectionate, quite nervous and may spend lots of time away from the house – potentially only coming home for food. His family must be happy to accept him as he is and have a lot of patience. Scruff is rough around the edges but with a heart of gold, and he deserves a safe and loving place to call home.
