Adopt Sekani

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 3 years

Sekani - a sensitive Egyptian dog is urgently looking for his home. Sekani unfortunately did not have a good start in life. He was found as a small puppy without his dog family in a small village on the Nile in Egypt. Locals took him in and kept him isolated in an empty apartment for 4 months. Then he was freed from his isolation, but caught a virus infection and had to be treated in a veterinary clinic for 4 weeks, again isolated. The little fighter fortunately made it and was later prepared for adoption by an animal protection organization in Egypt. He is microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, tested for Mediterranean diseases and dewormed. Since July 2023, Sekani has been in Germany. Due to the experiences he has had in his life, he is still shy and insecure, but has developed very well and made great progress in this regard. He still reacts uncertainly to people and new situations, and needs time to build trust. However, besides his shyness, he is also a playful and sometimes rambunctious young dog who still has a lot to learn. Sekani attends dog school and knows the basic commands sit, stay, come and heel. The handsome boy is a whirlwind who jumps excitedly into the leash when he sees cats or wildlife, so his humans need to be firm. Riding in a car scares him and needs to be positively built up. He is very interested in other dogs and wants to play, often being overzealous and reckless. He is very freedom-loving and prefers to be in the garden. In house and apartment he still feels confined. He can already be alone at home for 6 hours and has never broken anything so far. Sekani calms down well with appropriate exercise and then sleeps quietly for hours on his spot. For Sekani we are looking for a loving home with patient people who have experience in handling insecure dogs. He needs time and must be gently introduced to new life situations. A dream for Sekani would be a quiet home in a rural area with a fenced garden, with experienced dog people who have enough time and patience to gain his trust and work intensively with him. A calm and stress-free atmosphere helps him greatly to get rid of his insecurity. A confident first dog would be wonderful, Sekani loves to play with other dogs... Small children and cats should not live with him. Who will give this sensitive puppy a safe and happy home?

About Sekani

What life with Sekani looks like

Sekani is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sekani, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sekani?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sekani on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sekani if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sekani already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sekani isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sekani and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
