Adopt Selene

Podenco · Female · Senior · 9 years

Pego Animal Shelter (APROP): Input 11 February 2026: Selene was brought to the shelter and we are certain that she recently gave birth. Her teeth are in bad condition and she has clearly had a hard life. We know it is not easy to place an older dog in an adoptive home, but we hope someone still has a spot on the couch and in their heart for this gentle Podenco. Selene is a gentle dog who likes to play with other dogs and goes on the mountain walk on Tuesdays. This is a walk of over 8 kilometers that is done with a large group of volunteers and dogs from the shelter. Furthermore, Selene is affectionate. It would be nice if someone still has a spot available for her so that she does not have to spend her last years in an animal shelter, but can still enjoy the peace of a home environment.

Verder is Selene aanhankelijk. Het zou fijn zijn als er nog iemand een plekje voor haar beschikbaar heeft zodat zij niet de laatste jaren van haar leven hoeft te slijten in een asiel en nog kan genieten van de rust in een huiselijke omgeving.

About Selene

What life with Selene looks like

Selene is a senior podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Selene, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Selene?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Selene on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Selene if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Selene already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Selene isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Selene and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
