Home Selma Crossbreed Shepherd, Female, born in August 2017 Category: Adopted DescriptionAdditional Information Selma is a beautiful 8-year-old crossbreed Shepherd dog who arrived at our shelter in May 2022 following an emergency relocation from an overcrowded shelter in Romania. Her past remains unknown to us, but there’s no doubt it wasn’t easy. Her beginnings with us were extremely difficult. Selma was deeply afraid of humans and any kind of contact, isolating herself at the back of her kennel, completely invisible. Thanks to the unwavering dedication of our volunteers and animal care staff, she has made spectacular progress. Today, although she still carries some traces of her trauma, Selma is a completely different dog! She has gained confidence and is finally revealing a spirited, gentle, attentive temperament—and even a bit of a princess at times! She knows exactly what she wants and how to get it, and once fully trusted, she shows herself to be profoundly affectionate. Selma is also sociable with other dogs and gets along well with cats, making her a dog with many wonderful qualities. Her future owners will have the task of gently introducing her to life inside a home, gradually exposing her to new environments. She’ll need regular daily outings in a suitable setting. To ensure her well-being and peace of mind, we’d like to avoid adopting her into homes with young children. If this description resonates with you and you see yourself reflected in this profile... Selma is waiting only for you to give her all the love she has to offer. About Selma

What life with Selma looks like

Selma is a adult dog waiting at SPA de Loire Atlantique in Nantes.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Selma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Selma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA de Loire Atlantique handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Selma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Selma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA de Loire Atlantique will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Selma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Selma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA de Loire Atlantique early rather than rehoming privately; they know Selma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
