Serena

Female · Adult · 5 years

Serena - a shy water dog looking for her people Serena is just 1.5 years old and yet she has already had to experience what it feels like to suddenly be without a home. The pretty water dog has ended up in our Spanish partner animal shelter and initially shows herself to be very shy and nervous. Especially strangers who enter her kennel unsettle Serena. She needs a moment to assess the situation and initially retreats. But who gives her the time she needs, experiences how she slowly gains trust. If you stay calm with her and don't pressure her, Serena becomes increasingly relaxed and dares to engage with the person. Behind her initial uncertainty is a young dog girl who simply has to learn that people mean well to her. Therefore, we wish Serena a quiet, understanding home with people who have patience and don't demand that she be a self-confident dog overnight. She should be allowed to arrive at her own pace and have the opportunity to build trust and security. A rather quiet, rural environment would be ideal for the sensitive dog. Optically, Serena also urgently needs some attention: Her fur is currently very matted and she urgently needs a haircut. After that, it will probably become clear what a pretty water dog is in her. Serena is still so young and has her whole life ahead of her. We wish her people who not only see the cute dog but also understand her uncertainty and are willing to go the way with her to a self-confident and happy dog life. Who gives her this chance will experience how from initial caution slowly trust and real connection arises. Here's Serena's video

About Serena

What life with Serena looks like

Serena is an adult dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Serena, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Serena?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Serena on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Serena if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Serena already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Serena isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Serena and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
