Shadow

Female · Adult · 5 years

Shadow is an enthusiastic lady who loves getting out and about for sniffy adventures and making new friends! After a busy day, Shadow is very happy to settle down for a relax and a snooze. She is a real foodie and is highly motivated by treats, which will be a great help when continuing her training and building a strong bond with her new family. If you feel Shadow could be the perfect companion for you, please submit an application and don't forget to "favourite" her! This bubbly girl is Shadow the 5-year-old Boxer. She is an absolute sweetheart who loves people and will jump up to say hello! As she can be so bouncy, we feel Shadow is better suited to a home with older teenagers or adults who are confident around lively dogs. Shadow arrived to Dogs Trust through no fault of her own and is now ready to find her forever home with a family who are happy to support her with the transition from kennels to home life. Shadow has been working really hard on building her confidence in some areas and her adopters will need to be up for continuing this in her new home. Any training you take on will be supported by the team at Dogs Trust. To help with this, we feel Shadow will benefit from a large, enclosed garden space where she can play to her heart's content and quieter walking areas while she settles in. Shadow just loves a fuss and cuddle with her favourite people so would prefer to be the only dog in her new home so she can keep all the attention to herself!

About Shadow

What life with Shadow looks like

Shadow is a large adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ballymena in Ballymena.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shadow, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shadow?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ballymena handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shadow on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shadow if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ballymena will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shadow already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shadow isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ballymena early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shadow and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
