Adopt Shadow

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 10 months

Shadow (DNA report in progress) Amstaff Mix, male dog microchipped, vaccinated, Born: 16.10.2024 The puppy in a teenager's outfit Some dogs don't get the perfect start in life – like our Shadow. Almost 10 months old, he is full of energy, curiosity, and joy for life, but unfortunately, in his first months, he saw very little of the world and rarely went outside. When we took him in, he was shy, insecure, and afraid of many things outside – who could blame him? Now he is slowly opening up and discovering how exciting life can be. He loves going for walks, new smells fascinate him, and he is simply lovely with people – especially children. He also gets along wonderfully with other dogs. We don't know how he is with cats. Large animals, like horses or cows, still scare him. But hey – he's still learning! Training? Well… Shadow is more of a rough diamond. He isn’t fully house-trained yet, but it's getting better every day, and accidents are now rare. One thing Shadow wants is to have his people around. He enjoys the closeness and cuddling and shared activities at the foster home. What he needs is a family with patience, humor, and heart – preferably with steady children, but please not in the hustle and bustle of the city. Since we often receive inquiries, we would like to point out that our dogs are in foster homes across the country, and it may happen that you get to know the German Autobahn when you find your dream dog. We do not place dogs abroad. Alissia, many thanks for the cute pictures. If you are interested in Shadow, please fill out our form:

About Shadow

What life with Shadow looks like

Shadow is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Listenhunde Nothilfe in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shadow, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shadow?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Listenhunde Nothilfe handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shadow on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shadow if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Listenhunde Nothilfe will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shadow already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shadow isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Listenhunde Nothilfe early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shadow and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
