Shadow

Saluki Β· Male Β· Adult Β· 7 years

🐾 Meet Shadow (aka Shadrack) Shadow is a big-hearted goofball looking for his forever home β€” one that’s adults-only and filled with patience, understanding, and love. This handsome sighthound came to us as a welfare case after living in a car, so the world is still a pretty new and sometimes overwhelming place for him. Because of this, Shadow needs someone who will take things slowly, helping him build confidence through calm, positive experiences and continued training. Shadow can get overexcited or bark in new situations β€” sometimes he just doesn’t quite know what to do with all his energy! But once you’ve earned his trust, you’ll find he’s incredibly funny, affectionate, and loyal. He’s the kind of dog who will keep you smiling every day. 🌳 Shadow’s ideal home: Adults-only and in a quiet, rural area Patient owner willing to go at his pace No cats or small furries (he has a strong prey drive! ) Best as the only dog in the home 🎾 What Shadow loves: Playing with toys and having zoomies Walks on a loose lead Spending time with people he trusts Relaxing after a good play session Fine being left for 2–3 hours Playful with other dogs off-lead Whines a little when travelling but soon settles Shadow might take a little time to come out of his shell, but when he does, you’ll have a loyal, hilarious, and loving companion by your side. If you think you can give this special boy the calm, patient home he deserves, please apply online today.

About Shadow

What life with Shadow looks like

Shadow is a large adult saluki dog waiting at Ferne Animal Sanctuary in Chard.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shadow, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shadow?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ferne Animal Sanctuary handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shadow on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shadow if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Ferne Animal Sanctuary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shadow already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shadow isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ferne Animal Sanctuary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shadow and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
