adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Shakes has found a home! His story: The sweet Shakes with a standing ear and a folding ear is currently living in Gießen in his foster home. He has settled in wonderfully and especially enjoys the beautiful walking and running rounds. With his two dog buddies, Shakes can already often run along on the jogging rounds. He has quickly understood this and behaves very well, always very focused. In general, he is very smart and learns everything very quickly. He loves getting tasks and learning new things. Head and nose work are his favorite hobbies. For Shakes, who is called Felix in his foster home, it would be great if he could continue to be active and go for nice walks or go hiking sometimes. He can also very well run along on a bicycle or while jogging. But of course, long cuddle sessions and extensive playing should not be missing either. Felix is completely fearless and is not intimidated by loud noises. New Year's Eve or large events with many people find him super exciting and he is always curious. Also during the search for a new home, he is always at the front. Originally, Felix came from Zalau, Romania. There, he lived in our private shelter and suffered extremely under the cramped and lonely conditions. With one ear always up, the tongue always out, and eyes wide awake – as if Felix wanted to feel life with all his senses and in every moment. His body size of about 55 cm and a weight of about 26 kg certainly also help, but especially Felix's openness and the deep trust with which he meets everyone from dog to human. And because he is still only about 1.5 to 2 years old, sometimes things can be a bit stormy, looking forward to the next adventure, the next pat. Felix often compensates for himself. Due to his appearance and the assessment of the veterinarian, we assume that he is a German Shepherd mix – and his behavior also speaks for this: Felix exudes energy and joy of life, learns very quickly, especially when there is food involved. 🙂 Our Felix is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. He has an EU pet passport and can be adopted after a positive match. Has Shakes, now Felix, won your heart? Then we look forward to your inquiry! Many thanks Claudia D.! Your nametag was the starting gun for a new life! A big thank you also goes to www.schmutznasen.com for the great pictures. As of: 31.07.

About Shakes

What life with Shakes looks like

Shakes is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shakes, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shakes?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shakes on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shakes if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shakes already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shakes isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shakes and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
