Shanti

Mixed Breed · Female

Description Our animal welfare workers report: This beautiful female dog comes from a killing shelter in Bârlad, from which she was rescued. At first glance, she appears serious and somewhat distant – but this impression is misleading. In truth, behind her cautious nature lies mainly fear and insecurity. Our animal rescuers describe her as a very sensitive soul: When she senses something happening around her, she tends to take a few steps back – almost as if she’s worried that someone might harm her. It seems as though she is internally disappointed and wonders if even this person isn’t well-intentioned towards her. Despite this protective barrier, she is not closed off, but simply fragile and cautious due to what she has experienced. She has already adapted to wearing the harness without any problems, but the courage to go outside has thus far been lacking. We are, however, sure that she will soon master this step. She gets along well with other dogs. Day by day, she opens up a little more. It’s particularly beautiful to observe how she becomes increasingly joyful about the presence of our animal rescuers and slowly begins to trust. For her, we are searching for a quiet, loving home with patience and empathy, who will give her the time she needs. Shanti may not yet have learned what a carefree dog life can be like – but she carries all the subtle hopes within her. Whoever meets her with a heart will be able to witness how cautious steps grow into trust and how insecurity slowly turns into love. Shanti is waiting for her person who will show her that she is finally allowed to arrive. Please note:

About Shanti

What life with Shanti looks like

Shanti is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Shanti, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Shanti?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Shanti on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Shanti if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Shanti already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Shanti isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Shanti and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
